The effect of mucle fibre
type on eccentric exercise damage.
Rationale
During treadmill running, only postural motor units will be
active, possibly explaining damage to slow muscles.
Damage has been shown to depend strongly on sarcomere length
range.
Talbot, J. A. and D. L. Morgan. The effects of
stretch parameters on eccentric exercise induced damage to toad
skeletal muscle. J. Musc. Res. Cell. Mot. 19: 237-245, 1998. (Eight
toad sartorii, 60 contractions with 10% stretch at 3L0/s.)
Different fibre types within the muscle may be operating over
different sarcomere length ranges for the same muscle length
range.
