  • Jodi Richardson graduated PhD in November 2007, with a thesis entitled "Determining the effectiveness of eccentric exercise training to pretect hamstring muscles against injury and soreness."
  • Sumit Parikh graduated PhD in 2006 with a thesis entiltled "Optimised distributed stimulation of human calf muscle"
  • Melanie Franklyn graduated PhD in 2005 with a thesis entiled "Tibial stress injuries in athletes: Mechanical analysis and computer modelling."
  • The footballer hamstring testing was expanded to four clubs for 2004, with Essendon, Hawthorn and Western Bulldogs joining St Kilda in being tested.
  • James Fallon's PhD thesis "Stochastic resonance in biological systems" has been accepted with just one minor piece of extra information requested to be included by one examiner.
  • Uwe Proske and David Morgan have been awarded two new National Health & Medical Research Council project grants for 2002-2004.
  • David Morgan has been awarded a SMURF2 grant for 2002.
  • Trevor Allen, a PhD graduate of David Morgan and Uwe Proske was awarded the Lampard medal for the best PhD graduate in the department for 2000.

  • Camilla Brockett (PhD under Uwe Proske and David Morgan) has been chosen as one of 12 young scientists to present her work at Science Now during Science week at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre South bank on Saturday May 6 at 11:15.
  • Katherina Theologedis won the prize for best student project at the IEAust College of Biomedical Engineering student presentation night. Her project was titled "An ambulatory ECG system", supervised by A/P Brown. (1999 Nov 30)
  • Trevor Allen, one of the post-graduate students of the Centre, and the Department of Physiology was awarded one of two Young Investigator awards at the 5th International Olympic Committee World Congress. The award was given by Sports Medicine Australia for the best congress presentation in basic science by presenters under 35yrs. This congress is held by the IOC Medical Commission one year before each Olympic games in the host city. Trevor's prize includes a trip to the next meeting of the American College of Sports Medicine in Indianapolis to present his paper, titled "Eccentric contraction-induced muscle damage is more related to muscle length than force". The announcement came unexpectedly at the gala dinner of the congress, held in the Sydney Botanic Gardens on the evening of Thursday the 4th of November. The prize was presented by Prince Alexandre de Merode, chairman of the IOC Medical Committee and Congress President. Receipt of such a prestigious award is a great honour for Trevor and reflects on the high standard of his research work. His supervisors Dr Morgan and Professor Proske, and fellow students Camilla Brockett and Nick Whitehead also presented papers at the Congress, attended by 1500 people from around the world. A/P Barry Oakes was part of the organising team, and also received an award for his part in planning the Congress.
  • A paper describing Ying Huang's PhD project appeared in the IEEE transactions in July. She graduated October 19.
  • The year 2000 project with the Department of Human Services has been further increased. (May 99)
  • Dr Morgan has been appointed to one of the discipline panels responsible for assessing NH&MRC applications. (Mar 99)
  • The IEAust. College of Biomedical Engineers Annual Student Presentation night on Dec 8th saw the prize split between two MUCBE students, Zorana Hadzimahmutovic for her project on training of gynaecological endoscopic surgeons and Jagir Baxi for his project on the application of neural networks to sound localisation. (Dec 99)
  • "Muscles: Energy, Mechanics, Neural Control and Exercise" has been accepted as a nominated research strength of the Faculty of Medicine. This includes Dr. Morgan and Prof Proske from MUCBE, along with Colin Gibbs, Igor Wendt, Chris Barclay, Tony Luff, Glen McConell and Jan West, all from Physiology.
  • Dr Morgan of MUCBE has been invited as a keynote speaker at two sessions of the 5th IOC World Congress of Sports in Sydney in November 1999.
  • The NH&MRC grant submitted by Dr Morgan and Professor Proske was successful, being awarded $149835 over 1999-2001.
  • The paper by Hadzimahmutovic, Z., Healy, D. L., Tsaltas, J., Lawrence, A. S., Brown, T. I. H. & Flanagan, B. titled "Gynaecological endoscopy training simulators: a review" was accepted by the journal Gynaecological Endoscopy,and added to the publications page.
