Introduction

The influence of renewables in the energy marketplace is continuing to grow.

Concern for the environment has been the major driving force for this growth, and the desire for sustainability in the world community is becoming a significant consideration.

Development of renewable and sustainable energy technology in Australia is still in its infancy and will require active support by government, utilities and financing institutions to ensure a steady growth.

Much has been done towards sustainable energy, but much still remains to be done, especially in the areas of promotion, demonstration, financing, public awareness and perceptions, training and technology transfer.

The Sustainable Energy Day – 2002 hosted by the Department of Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering of Monash University, follows similar successful events held in 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001. It gives participants the opportunity to hear from Government representatives, industry leaders and experts working at the forefront of renewable energy systems and research.

Aim

The aim of the Sustainable Energy Day – 2002 is to provide a forum for participants to hear from government representatives as well as experts who are involved in the renewable energy industry or in research organisations and are leaders in their fields, and who will talk on the latest developments in the field of sustainable energy.

This year’s event will focus on a broad area of renewable and sustainable energy. In this interactive event, future trends in renewable energy will be discussed.

The Sustainable Energy Day – 2002 is designed to provide information about the latest developments in the field of renewable energy worldwide. Australia’s prospects will also be discussed.

Comprehensive materials and wide ranging discussions will provide participants with an overview of the various approaches taken in the field of sustainable energy technology. Participants will develop an understanding of the key issues in the technology, policy, financing, applications, future trends, design, installation and operation of renewable systems.

Who should attend: This is an essential event for users of renewable energy, energy officers, university instructors, utility and government representatives, manufacturers of renewable energy systems, postgraduate students in the field of renewable energy, people who currently work in or plan to be employed in the renewable energy industry, and people who wish to learn the important issues in the field of energy sustainability.
