degrees Master of Engineering Science by Research.
The Master of Engineering Science is the initial postgraduate research
degree offered by the Department. Candidates commencing this degree
often convert to the Doctor of Philosophy degree after one year of
study. Project topics are available at any time in any of our
main areas of research .
Electrical engineering is among the most rapidly developing areas of
knowledge. The range of potential research topics changes frequently
and so you are encouraged to contact the department's postgraduate

The Master of Engineering Science is usually completed by research only
at the Clayton Campus. Under exceptional circumstances the programme
may be conducted by external candidature. Entry to this degree requires
evidence that a candidate has (a) a university honours degree in
engineering or (b) a university pass degree in engineering or similar
degree plus honours-equivalent experience appropriate to the field of
study. Doctor
of Philosophy. The Doctor of Philosophy is currently the
highest degree offered by the Department. There are a very

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD.) degree is awarded for a thesis in which the
candidate demonstrates that he/she has made a substantial contribution
to knowledge, based on
research
that he/she has undertaken at the University. The award of this degree
is generally accepted as showing that the candidate is capable of
carrying out unsupervised research. This program of work takes a
minimum of three years for a holder of a Bachelor's degree or two years
