Title: "Survivability Planning in Computer Telecommunication Networks"

Speaker: Dr. Meir Herzberg

Abstract:

The seminar will cover practice and theory in the area of network survivability planning. After introducing some basic terms, strategies, and performance measures, the major factors involved in planning will be explained. Qualitative and quantitative aspects will be illustrated using numerical examples. The seminar will conclude with highlights and recent developments in this growing-area of importance.

About the speaker:

Dr. Meir Herzberg holds a Ph.D. in Operations Research from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio. In 1990 he joined Telstra Research Labs (TRL) as a Project Leader. One of the highlights of his work was re-designing a national protection network that generated equipment savings of Aus$20 million. For this work, he and his team were awarded TRL’s 1995 High-achievement Award. Currently Dr. Herzberg works for ECI Telecom, an international equipment-vendor company, where he is in charge of developing planning tools for the Marketing Division. He is also a part-time lecturer at Tel-Aviv University, Tel-Aviv, Israel.
