Title: Dynamic Behaviour of DC Bus Power Systems for the All Electric Ship

Speaker: Ned Karim

E&CSE, Monash University

Abstract:

The research area is the investigation of the distribution of electrical energy around a large ship using DC type electrical reticulation rather than the more conventional AC type system. This concept represents a major advance in the way electrical energy can be distributed to load systems, and is currently attracting considerable research interest. It is particularly applicable to situations where the loads include a substantial percentage of power electronic conversion systems, such as in the case foe a large ship. However, as correctly identified by the researcher, little research work has been reported regarding the operation of this type of network, particularly in terms of the reticulation system’s stability under dynamically changing load and generation conditions. This seminar reports a study of the dynamic behaviour of DC Bus power systems fed by multiple alternators with single and multiple rectifiers. Obtained simulation results from a ship DC power network are used to validate the proposed method.
