ECSE Departmental Research Seminar, 1st February 2006

Title: "Robotic Intervention to Intelligent Video Surveillance"

Speaker: Punarjay “Jay” Chakravarty, E&CSE Monash University, Australia

Abstract:

The talk will focus on methods used to track people from stationary cameras and then follow them using a mobile robot, required for robotic surveillance and service applications. In particular, it will discuss particle-filter based algorithms that the speaker has developed for tracking multiple people simultaneously, using a fusion of sensors (both stationary and mobile) and demonstrate some video results. Mobile robot localization algorithms using vision and laser that have been researched and tested over the past year will also be demonstrated.

About the speaker:

Punarjay Chakravarty completed his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering at Melbourne University in 2004. Since March 2005, he has been working on a Master’s by Research degree at Monash University’s Intelligent Robotics Research Centre (IRRC) under the supervision of Prof. Ray Jarvis. His research interest lies in tracking people from a combination of stationary cameras and mobile ones mounted on mobile robots.
