Luleå University of Technology was founded in
1971. Its main
campus is situated about 100 km below the Arctic Circle. The Gulf
Stream
gives Luleå, and the region, a milder winter and a short but
pleasant
summer.
There are approximately 12,500 students, 60 professors,
700 teaching
staff and about 350 postgraduate students at the University. There are
two faculties. The Faculty of Engineering dominates the University with
about 2,300 students in the MSc Programs. The School of Business and
the
School of Education in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities have grown
during
the last ten years and each has about 1,000 students in their programs.
At the Campus of Piteå, 50 km south of Luleå is the School
of Music with about 250 students currently enrolled. The Department of
Health Science is situated in the Campus of Boden, 40 km northwest of
Luleå.
The Space Engineering program is at the Kiruna campus.
