The Monash-Luleå collaboration
started in December 1996 as a teacher exchange program financed by the
Swedish Council for the Renewal of
University Education between the Department of Computer Science
and Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Luleå
University of Technolology and the ECSE Department, Faculty of
Engineering, Monash University. This exchange in teaching involved one
academic from Luleå University of Technology coming to Australia
for one semester and two academics from Monash going to Luleå in
1997.
The highly successful program led to a
successful application in 1999 for funding from the STINT
(The Swedish Foundation for International Co-operation in Research and
Higher Education) Fellowship Program to develop collaboration in
research and teaching. This four-year grant has a value in excess of
A$500,000.
Since then strong and reciprocally
useful links and breadth of collaboration between the two universities
have been developed. The grant enabled development of collaboration in
research and teaching in various areas within and beyond the Faculty of
Engineering, including the faculties of Arts, Art and Design,
Education, Business and Economics, Education, IT and Science.
